Designing a new bell-type primary air nozzle for large-scale circulating fluidized bed boilers

The design of energy efficient engineering systems is crucial for sustainable operation when economic and environmental consequences are considered. Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) boilers, which among the major contributors to world electricity production, still increasing in numbers unit sizes. Primary air nozzles key components CFB boilers that may decrease consumption increase efficiency, they need be carefully designed. There certain types commonly used distribution grate, but even minor improvements on nozzle can significantly pressure loss. This work about optimizing bell-type primary Turkish lignite-fired ÇAN Thermal Power Plant (CTPP), has two 160 MWe through computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Initially, was designed newly by changing inner head holes geometry. After that, geometry optimized orifice size angle drop, velocity outlet, flow uniformity CFD simulations. With optimum geometry, at outlet orifices increased, a 2.86 kPa achieved total Furthermore, were downwardly with an 105°, drop across decreased 7.6 %, index increased 2 % orifices. Using nozzle, designed, CTPP boiler not only will save 2.26 GWh/year also minimize backflow risk operation.
